Sunlight on the Snow

by Jolene Doering
(Elko, British Columbia, Canada)

As you can tell I live in an area where there is a large amount of snowfall during the winter.

My favorite days are the really sunny bright ones. I always throw on my sunglasses and I'll head out for a day of taking pictures and admiring nature.

I really love this picture because it seems to catch the "glowing" look of the sunshine as it reflects off the snow.

I always feel like I'm walking through an enchanted forest or some fairytale land. My grandmother always would tell me, when I was a child, that the sun reflecting off the snow was tiny, little fairies dancing, the sunlight shining off the tiny, bejewelled dresses.

Noticing the way light dances off snow, to this day, still makes me of my grandmother and always catches my eye.

What a lovely photo, and a lovely story to go with it.

I love the softness in this photo. It's possible to achieve this using software if you haven't managed to do so when you took the photo.

The process can be a little complex but there is software available these days that will do it for you in just one click.

If you are lucky enough to live in a place where it snows like this I think Jolene has shown that it's more than possible to still get out and take some great photos.

In fact, some places look even more stunning when they have a covering of snow.

Thanks for the submission Jolene and well done you for braving the cold and giving us a picture to admire,

Darrell.
