The Wonderful City

by João
(São Gonçalo, RJ, Brazil)

The most beautiful city in the world!

The most beautiful city in the world!

Yes, that's Rio de Janeiro. ;)

I took this one with my cell phone at university. I study in Niterói, that is just in the other side of the Guanabara Bay.

The Praia Vermelha campus, where I have some of the classes, fronts Rio directly, giving us great views!!!

At home I used Photoshop to enhance the color version (I boosted the saturation a little and added some sharpening). Then, I used the channel mixer to convert it to black and white.

That's the result. :-D

We love this photo - the scenery is of course fabulous, but the choice of black and white is also spot on too.

One thing we especially like is the sky – really fading from bright to really dark – a result of the channel mixer.

As always, good to photograph this in colour, and then convert to black and white later.

If you want to have a go at this yourself, click to read a Photoshop tutorial on using the channel mixer.

Thanks for the submission!
