"The Orchid & The Ant"

by Fred Braun
(Hilo, Hawaii USA)

"The Orchid & The Ant"

This photo was taken on the grounds of the Ola'a First Hawaiian Church in Kurtistown on the big island of Hawaii.

I thought the wild Chinese Orchid would make a great B&W photo. I never noticed the ant on the stem to the right of the orchid until I processed the photo!

In black and white, this photo makes perfect sense. Bright white petals set against a dark background.

Plus, it's a fairly simple composition (close in on the flower) which also tends to work well in black and white.

Thanks for the submission Fred.

Darrell.
